SPYMAN

spyman

Ohhhh No.  Its Spyman! And hes fighting the Cyclops.  How is this not common knowledge?  I found this comic when looking up Steranko and his SHEILD issues.  Here I was thinking I was in for early psychadelic comics by the man who made things such as:

…yeah so here I am waiting on young Steranko.  Turns out he didnt too much of the art.  Instead he was the creator, the plotter.  So.  Let down?  Ohhhhhh no.  I wouldnt say that.

Spyman and his incredible hand thwart evil.  Thats not that crazy.  Triple eye forehead?  No we’re talking.  Secret Statue of Liberty Fortress?

spayman03Yup.  Got that.  Well, thats only natural right?  I mean where else is Spyman gonna train and research weaponry?  C’mon.

spyman02Now heres a twist.  The third eye…not in fact an eye at all.  It takes a Chief Doctor to notice the peice of paper glued to this mans forehead.  Am I dissapointed that my Triclops has been revealed to be a charlatan?  Not just yet….Not as such…

spyman04I can always trust the Cyclops to remedy the situation.

spyman05With Authority.

So you get the idea, youve been exposed to the main players .  You may think you have a solid understanding of what Spyman is all about.

Watch out though, theres a curveball up his sleeve, hes gonna throw you for a loop.

Mmmhmm.  In his spare time Spyman participates in the Aztec rodeo.  On giant robot Queztecoatls.

So yeah.  This winds up being one of the best comics Ive ever seen.  Its even got yer classic big finish showdown!

spyman11Wait for it…..

spyman12Aww man.  Im one part sad to never see the Cyclops again, one part overjoyed at how well everything was wrapped up.  Its funny.  Ive been developing a comic about a cannibal cyclops private eye and the world he lives in….but after uncovering this gem…I dont know if theres any wind left to power those sails.

Incidentally, George Tuska and Dick Ayers made Spyman a reality with the inks and pencils.  And Joe Simon blessed the cover.  So be sure to thank them in your mind.
